As you can see there are some changes coming to the theme here. The original theme, despite my tweaks, was actually badly, badly coded and I suspect that it is complicit in helping to bring the TGN server to a grinding halt from time to time. This site actually takes longer to load than TGN despite having less content.
I’ll be updating the site over the next few days to add the missing content.
I stopped into Strategies and picked up the newly released Legion Spell Martyr blister. I’ve not been on the PP forums so I didn’t have a clue what the models did. Happily they aren’t a unit at all but solos. you can also buy up to three of them for a point each. So not only are they handy for channeling spells in your Legion list but additionally useful for filling up one or two point deficits in lists.
Hopefully I’ll get a chance to try them out this weekend with Vayl or Thagrosh.
Now taking what I said earlier about the Skorne, its funny that their troops and Warbeasts appear to bore me and yet after reading through their Warlocks I am quite fascinated by them. Funny. Great Warlocks but, to me at least, uninspiring troops.
I finally broke down and picked up the Forces of Hordes: Skorne book. Unlike every other Force book released I wasn’t all that keen on this book. And after reading through it I finally realised that out of all of the factions in Warmachine and Hordes, Skorne really don’t do anything for me. I don’t know what it is but there is really nothing about the faction, their models, their background or their characters that stirs my imagination. I have the book for reference (so I can read up on the models that Dave routinely smacks me around with) but I’m even finding it difficult to stir up the interest to read it from that perspective.
I took a few moments last night to finish assembling some Legion figures including the Shepard I picked up yesterday. I have to say that the mini is actually one of the better sculpts in the entire Hordes range. It has delicate details on the mini and a wonderful expression on the face. It is perhaps one of the few figures that I have seen in the Hordes range that have been done a disservice by the studio paint job.
Also noteworthy were the Strider Unit Attachment. Great sculpts and a wonderful sense of movement on both of the figures. They really stand out from the rest of the unit as well making it clear which figures are which. Unlike quite a few Cryx figures I might add.
I have a unit of Blighted Archers and Swordsmen to assemble and then I will be ready to get in some games with this force. Hopefully it will be ready for gaming on Sunday.
I am not sure what happened between MK I and MK II but after some games and some wading I have to say that I am really not all that interested in the Circle faction for Hordes.
Perhaps picking Baldur as my first Circle cast after a few months of plating Cryx was a bad idea. He is quite defensive and not rally the same play experience as a Cryx army filled with Thralls and Reapers.
In any case I am going to be pushing the Circle minis to the side for the moment and working on a Legion force instead. Perhaps a Lylth list with a horde of 2 point Warbeasts?
When I got NQ31 this weekend I saw the art for the Warpborn Skinwalkers and was quite interested in the models. But when I saw the preview that Privateer Press posted today I was immediately sold. These figs are “full of win” as the kids say and are a bit of a blessing for me as a Circle player. I want some big beatstick units but I really don’t like the Tharn Ravagers. These models not only bring the hurt but look amazing.
I can’t wait for these to come out and I am already thinking of fielding two units of them.
The Tabletop Gaming News Hordes Battle Challenge started this week and I am in the midst of starting to assemble and start painting my Circle force.
So I did a bit of assembly and basing the last few days. I put together and sanded the bases for
Tomorrow or Friday these will all get primed and then I will start on painting Baldur, the Woldwarden and the Woldwyrd. Once those are done I’ll get to work on the Druids and the Overseer.
I picked up the new Privateer Press Warmachine tokens today and had a chance to pop the package open and have a look at them. There are two main types of tokens, status counters like focus, souls and Corrosion markers and three different sets of markers for spells and other effects.

A few days ago I was commenting on the sizes of Venthrax and Epic Asphyxios. Clearly I hadn’t run into Terminus :-) I recently picked up a copy of the Lich version of Kharchev and he is a monster. Even without the wings he dwarfs every other Warcaster In the Cryx army and with them he dwarfs every model in the game.
I have a crazy urge to put him and the Deathjack in the same army :-)
