Shattered Grounds 2011: Windless Wastes @ Connection Games Renfrew

Heads up Warmachiners, the Shattered Grounds leagues are back for 2011.  PG Geist has put out a call on the vancouvergamers.com forum with some information about how you can come out and participate in the action at Connection Games‘ Renfrew location.  For those too lazy to click the link to Geist’s post, I will reproduce his missive below:

Tour 1 of the 2011 league season takes place in the Windless Wastes, where Khador, Cygnar, and Pirate forces square off. Each player that participates in the league will receive a unique Windless Wastes rank insignia patch. As the 2011 Shattered Grounds leagues continue, each participating player will receive another rank insignia patch that adds to the prior patches to form a higher rank.

The league runs from Monday Feb 7th  to Sunday March 6th. So come on down on Wedensday evenings until 9pm or all day Sunday from 11am -6pm for confirmed table space for warmachine gaming at connection games on Renfrew.

People are able to get in games any other day of the week but please be mindful of other players and remember that we are sharing the space on other days.

Important date: Saturday March 5th –  Magic the Gathering: Mirrodin Besieged Gameday
Therefore there may be no space or limited gaming space available for Warmachine on this Saturday.  Please call on the 5th to confirm space availability if you plan to come in.

For more information on windless wastes go to:

http://privateerpress.com/organized-play/leagues/windless-waste

Here you will find Images of the League coin that goes to the top ranking player,  The rank insignia patch that everyone gets for participating in the leagues,  as well as the rules for shattered grounds and windless wastes.

There are also special cards for this season that replace the units normally available so make sure to check those out as they present some new and varied options for your force!

I look forward to seeing everyone over the course of this league, be they new players or veterans returning to the leagues!

See you there!

-Lucas Smith

I’m looking forward to getting some more HordesMachining in, as I missed a lot of the league action in the last half of 2010.  If you’re looking to set up an opponent, head on over to The Connection section of vancouvergamers.com and post up!

1st Annual Brian Rempel Invitational

One of our Warmachine gaming friends, Brian Rempel, was back in town from Edmonton for a trip and it was decided to have a fun tournament to help commemorate his return and also to make sure he got as many games in with his Trollblood force while he was here. The event was originally going to have 12 players but due to some injuries and family issues we only had ten available.

At the game were:

  • Lucas Smith (Cryx)
  • Lucas Do Livramento (Cygnar)
  • Me (Magnus)
  • Pawel (Menoth)
  • Hemming (Trollbloods)
  • Dave J. (Skorne)
  • Brian (Trollbloods)
  • Roland Cooper (Cryx)
  • Paul S. (Skorne)
  • Nick (Khador)

Subhedgehog’s Salute 2010 Steamroller Report – part 2

So in the first part of my tournament battle reports I managed a couple of quick wins due to the always impertinent Titan Gladiator and some poor positioning on the part of my opponents.  This put me ahead of the curve in the swiss pairing system – my next opponent had also won his first two matches.  His two lists, he explained to me, were exactly the same with the exception of the caster.  As he spent a few moments refreshing my memory as to how bad epic Sorscha’s feat was going to hurt me, I figured (correctly, it would turn out) that this would be his caster of choice.  I considered my options.  I thought that the Cetrati brick would be quickly shattered under eSorscha’s feat, so I went with my titan herd, hoping the three heavies would weather the icy assault and that Morghoul’s higher defense would give me a chance to do some damage.

Subhedgehog’s Salute 2010 Steamroller report – part 1

I’d like to start off this post by re-iterating what a good time I had at the Trumpeter Salute WarmaHordesMachine event.  I had such a good time that the finer details of what happened in some of my games may have escaped my recollection and subsequent documentation.  So, if any of my opponents would like to speak up and correct me I will edit this post to contain the correct information I will have been right all along. Nothing to see here.  Move along.

From the conversations I had with the various other upstanding citizens who participated in the tournament there was one idea that was unanimously expressed:  Mark II makes everything move along more smoothly.  Obviously paying attention to the online conversations surrounding the new rules for Warmachine and Hordes, recently reading Warmachine Prime and obsessively poring over the Hordes field test cards will have helped my comprehension of the rules, but still…  It seemed to me that a lot of the messiness, for lack of a better term, from the previous incarnation of the rules had been cleaned up.  I could quickly understand interactions of abilities I had not previously seen in relation to others, particularly with respect to timing.  So, thumbs up from the Vanmachine crowd.

Subhedgehog’s Salute 2010 Steamroller report – Army Lists

Hello.  My name is Paul and I play Skorne. *whew*  Now that I’ve got that admission off my chest, I feel better already. :)  I go by the name Subhedgehog on most of the public forums I frequent, including the Privateer Press forum and Vancouver Gamers , so I’ll be posting under than moniker to keep it clear in everyone’s mind who I am.  Until they meet me in person and forget whom I am online.

I participated in the Trumpeter Salute 2010 tournament run by PG Geist.  This was my second time at this particular con, last year being my first Warmachine / Hordes tourney ever.  At twenty players, this was the largest event I have participated in and it was a blast.  I was also pleasantly surprised by my performance in the standings.  That’s me in 4th, or as I like to put it, first place in the no-trophy-competition.

Salute Steamroller event results

The Trumpeter Salute Steamroller event is over and while we are all working on our reports PG Geist sent along the results and I thought that I would post them ASAP. Derek won the event with a perfect record and, not noted here, he also scored 95 points worth of Warjacks/Warbeasts in the event as well. More than the next two highest totals combined. I think it goes without saying that he also won the Khador Best in Faction award :-)

Despite the scenarios being awards on Control Points it appears that only Ian was paying attention to that. His seven CPs was the highest in the event.

Player Name Player Faction Score SoS CP Tot
Derek Khador 5 14 5
Angus Khador 4 17 2
Chris G Cryx 4 10 3
Paul Skorne 3 15 0

Chad Cygnar 3 13 4

Getting ready for Salute

The Trumpeter Salute event is tomorrow and as part of that local Press Ganger PG Geist is running a 20 person Steamroller event. I will be coming back into the game in a big way by using this event to return to Warmachine gaming after a sizeable hiatus. Playing five games against some of the best players in Vancouver should give me a crash-course in playing Warmachine :-)
