Legion game notes

Ryan came over today with his Privateers to try to give my Legion force a thumping in their inaugural match. We played a 35 point game

My army was:

35+5 points, 23 models

Thagrosh, Prophet of Everblight +5 points
* Carnivean 11 points
* Nephilim Soldier 5 points
* 2x Shredder 2 points each

10 Blighted Archers 8 points
* Blighted Archers Officer & Ammo Porter 2 points
Shepherd 1 point
Strider Deathstalker 2 points
The Forsaken 2 points
3 Warmongers 5 points

This army was limited by my collection of Legion figures which isn’t very large at the moment.

Ryan’s army consisted of

35+5 points, 23 models

Captain Bartolo Montador +5 points
* 2x Buccaneer 3 points each
* Mangler 8 points
* Mariner 8 points

Bloody Bradigan 2 points
Bosun Grogspar 2 points
Doc Killingsworth 2 points
First Mate Hawk 2 points
10 Press Gangers 6 points
Sea Dog Deck Gun 2 points
Sea Dog Deck Gun 2 points

Ryan appears to have forgotten that his force was a Tier 2 list and that he could have redeployed his solos after we set up.

The game was rather grueling due in no small part to both Ryan’s and my own inability to make critical dice rolls or to fully damage our targets. My Warmongers and one Buccaneer were tied up for the entire game while Ryan was incapable of damaging me and I was incapable of destroying the Buccaneer. Thagrosh missed several key attacks with Metamorphosis and the game ran an additional turn due to my Carnivean’s inability to do another attack and kill Bartolo.

In the end I pulled out a win after I was able to seriously damage Bartolo with the Carnivean and then finish him off with a CRA from the Blighted Archers. Ryan was unlucky not to have gotten a win earlier as Bradigan could have killed Thagrosh if he hit with his second attack and Ryan was also quite unlucky with his Mariner.

I didn’t keep any detailed notes of the game but here are a few highlights:

Bradigan almost killing Thagrosh after surviving a Free Strike from my Shepard that “killed” him but which he survived due to his Tough roll.

Remembering to use Massacre on the Carnivean to let him wade through the Press Gangers to attack Bartolo.

Missing with my initial attacks with the Deathstrider and then never getting another shot with her

Ryan blowing the arm off his Mangler after missing with a shot from his Mariner.

I was quite happy with the game especially as I was able to remember a few key things
- not allowing Thagrosh to transfer since all his Beasts had full Fury
- doing my Threshold check when I needed to
- casting the Massacre animus on the Carnivean when it was useful
- keeping track of my Fury (for the most part)

I had quite a lot more fun with this army than with the Circle force that I was playing earlier and I can see from the game that I was looking for a lot more synergies and benefits from the various animus available to me. Perhaps there is a Circle caster I can try in the future but I think that Legion, especially Thagrosh, is a more aggressive faction and I’ll be sticking with them for a while.
